We have seen photos of pyramids several times but believe me when I say you are in for a surprise. Pyramids of Giza is little far away from the city of Cairo but the anticipation of seeing the mighty will make you pump with with excitement.
I wanted to see pyramids since a long time and never in my dreams I thought I will be able to see them. I bought an Egyptian traditional dress in Luxor and was wishing to wear when I visit the pyramids. As I was entering the security wearing the dress, the security guard refused to let me enter accusing me of being an Egyptian, pretending to be a foreigner. He started yelling at me in Arabic, demanding to know why I was doing so. Mayar came to my rescue and explained them, after a lot of debate they let me in. I understood its not going to be easy, but I was glad I had a local girlfriend with me. Let me tell you about this lovely young girl Mayar, I met her on Facebook through a travel community and she offered to show me around. Honestly I was hesitant at first but then I was like what the hell. It was the best decision ever, within an hr of meeting her I felt like it knew her forever. She wore a Hijab and was living in Cairo trying to break through old traditions. I could see the spark of new future Egypt in her eyes and in her words. Though only 24 but she was fire.
As I lay my eyes on the first pyramid, my jaw dropped. It was really huge, like really really huge. People came rushing to me offering their services for guide, camels, horses and food. For a minute I zoned out of the noises and was just awe-struck. the only word I learnt in Arabic was ‘shukran’ which means thank you. I kept saying that to censor and moved on. We went behind the pyramids and saw lot of camels. I didn’t wanted to ride a camel but I surely wanted a few pics with them. Michael Jackson(the camel) was happy to pose with me. Few local tourists came to click with me, I have no idea why but then I thought why not? let me feel like a celebrity for once.
The Fall
Everywhere on the pyramids its written that its not allowed to climb them but still everyone was doing so. As I was admiring the grandness of pyramids I heard a scream and a panic rose in the environment, everyone was panicking and running here and there. I saw a woman screaming and there was a kid on the bottom of the pyramid, apparently this family with kids were climbing the pyramid and one of the kids fell. people came rushing to help the kid all covered in blood, never have I seen so much blood in real life. I just froze. they took the kid in the car to the hospital. I can’t explain how I felt that time but all I could do was pray. I prayed for the wellness of that kids for next few days, hoping he is alright and fine now.
That Guy
As I and Mayar we knowing each other better, taking selfie and enjoying suddenly a guy comes to us and starts yelling at me in Arabic. I obviously could not understand a word and was very much calm but Mayar was on fire. She later told me that the guy was not liking that I was wearing an Egyptian dress and clicking photos. He said he was a cop and blah blah (obviously he was not). I realised I was catching too much attention because of the dress so I quickly changed to a normal one.
Enter the Pyramid
You can enter the pyramid through a tiny passage.Its little clausterphobic so I didn’t not even attempt. I saw videos on you-tube abt it and also heard about few molesation cases when entering the pyramids due to a tiny restricted entry. So I decided not to do so. Safety first right?
